After the Ban

After the Ban

It’s now been just over 3 weeks since the disposables ban came in, and so far it seems to have been relatively successful. There are a few outlying cases of businesses continuing to sell disposables after the ban, but these will become fewer and fewer as time goes on.

So, what now? We have some personalised recommendations for every type of vaper - as well as some tips for keeping your e-liquids happy.

To those who want (and need) to move on from disposables, but aren’t sure DIY is for them - we couldn’t recommend our POD FOG line enough. We’ve got such a wide range of flavour-packed products - our 10ml flavoured salts are the perfect swap for vapers looking for on-the-go convenience.

For DIY lovers, you keep doing what you’re doing. You know what you like, and how to make it - and we’ll keep providing everything you need.
Always make sure you keep an eye out for our new flavour releases - available as One Shots as well as Bottle Shots!
Fantasy Mango and Salted Caramel Cheesecake have gone down a treat at HQ - don’t miss out…

If you love convenience and low nic strength, you should head straight to our line-up of Short Fills. Easy to use and just one shake away from vape-ready, Short Fills are classics for a reason. However, it’s worth keeping an eye on this space, as they’re set to be taxed very heavily under next year’s bill.

The
best thing you can do is make sure that you’re taking care of the products that you already have at home.

All e-liquids should be kept somewhere warm, dark and dry (like a cupboard!) and your nic shots will love the cold of your freezer if you want best results,

In the meantime, we at DarkStar will be turning our gaze to next October, when the Tobacco & Vapes Bill fully comes in.

With the vape tax bill coming in October 2026 this will mean VG, PG & flavouring (Concentrates) will have a set duty/cost of £0.22p per ml (£2.20 per 10ml to make it easier) added on top of whatever the costs are now.

For example, if you buy a short-fill bottle of 100ml e-liquid for (let’s keep it simple) £10.00, add VAT at 20% makes it £12.00 and this is what you would pay now for example. After October 2026 when the new bill becomes law you would need to pay £34 I will show the work out below.

Cost of bottle: £10.00
VAT (@ 20%) is £2.00
Makes bottle: £12.00
Now duty needs to be added – 100ml = 10 x £2.20 = £22.00
£12.00 + £22.00 = £34.00

The duty fee is what the manufacturer pays upfront and then is passed on to the customer, some retailers may ease the blow by reducing there initial costs, for example as above instead of £10.00 they may go to £8.00 so they make £2.00 less (A hit on their costs) which would make it £32.00 if this makes sense.

Basically the duty costs are set in stone £2.20 per 10ml of liquid (concentrate or VG/PG) it doesn’t matter if its more concentrate or less it will go by the amount of liquid in the bottle.

Another example would be if you had a long fill with lets say 20ml of concentrate in it, there would only be duty to be paid on the 20ml of liquid (£4.40) so if you didn’t have any VG/PG in it then thats all the extra that would be put on the bottle.

10ml bottles of liquid would only have £2.20 added on so if you normally buy 1 × 10ml bottle of ‘Blue Slushy’ nic salt (For example) for £5.00 now then it would cost £7.20 after October 2026 (excluding VAT) also worth noting the new vape tax duty is a set price so this will NOT be taxed it is just being added on top, well thats how I read it.

Basically, if you by a 10ml bottle add on £2.20, if you buy a 60ml bottle (50ml of liquid in it) then add £11.00, and if you buy a 120ml bottle (100ml of liquid in it) then add £22.00.

Just concentrates say for example 30ml of concentrate will add £6.60 per bottle so you can work it out for yourselves quantity and amounts. There will be a grace period of 6 months for companies to get rid of stock after the October deadline so any old stock after October 2026 can still be sold up until April 2027 then thats it.

All NEW bottles no matter what that are manufactured after October 2026 will need to pay the vape duty and will also need a label/sticker that is applied to the outer packaging/label/box that says that ‘duty has been paid’ for that item which it looks like will need to be something that is voided once the seal is broken so you will know which bottles/products have paid the duty and are legal.

Any flavourings/concentrates, VG and PG sold for vape purposes fall under this tax, however, if they are NOT linked to vaping then no duties are added so if you are thinking of D.I.Y. then this would be your best move as you can mix your own and not have to pay any new duties :)

That’s it :) hope this helps and it may change so let’s see…

I’ve used VapeGoo for ages now and am totally happy with the service

Phill - June 24, 2025

Hi, so come next October, how will the next bill effect flavour concentrates for us D.I.Y’ers? Will only the pre-mixed juice and short/long fills be taxed heavily? I’m not concerned about nicotine as I have good stock of 500ml 7.2% nic bottles frozen (courtesy of DarkStar a long time ago!), but flavour concentrates are a concern. Many thanks.
