The Vape Tax Update

Where We Stand Right Now – Before the Tobacco & Vapes Bill LandsAt DarkStar, we always aim to keep our customers informed, especially during big changes to the vaping landscape, and right now, it's shifting fast! Disposables are now banned, and the Tobacco & Vapes Bill is moving through Parliament. Things may look calm on the surface, but behind the scenes, the industry is bracing for impact. The Calm Before the StormYes, disposables are gone. That change has already hit, however, as we predicted in our blog post last year, it made little difference to the reality on the ground, as manufacturers simply added a USB port and the ability to swap the pods while keeping the form and price essentially unchanged - research suggests that consumers use them as they did previously, and no significant gain was achieved. We’ve focused on supporting long-term vapers with DIY tools, One Shots, Bottle Shots and everything else that keeps vaping accessible and affordable. But even those options aren’t safe. The Tobacco & Vapes Bill is making its way through Parliament right now. It’s already passed key readings in the House of Lords and is expected to become law within the next year - we already know next year’s Black Friday will look completely different, not least due to the enormous tax planned for e-liquids which will see Short Fills selling for more than £30 each! The trouble is, the details are still completely unclear on what’s coming for the vape industry. For all we know, the vape scene this time next year could very well be unrecognisable. What’s Likely ComingThe government has been tight-lipped about the specifics, but what we do know isn’t reassuring. Based on current direction, we’re expecting:

  • Heavy taxation on all e-liquids, both nicotine-containing and nicotine-free.

  • Further flavour restrictions (not just for disposables)

  • Standardised packaging: potentially plain, unattractive, and confusing

  • A major increase in prices across the board

This would completely change how vaping works in the UK. DIY mixers, Short Fill users, and flavour chasers could find themselves priced out, or worse; without access to their preferred products at all. There’s been rumours of flavours being cut down to only tobacco and menthol, which will severely limit your options as a vaper.

Here are some examples of what the prices will look like according to current plans:

So Where Does That Leave Us?Right now, we’re in a window - a short one. This is likely the last pre-legislation Black Friday where you can:

  • Grab Short Fills without added tax

  • Order DIY concentrates in any flavour you like

  • Buy nicotine shots in bulk, affordably

  • Stock up on pods, coils, and hardware without looming restrictions

Once the Bill comes into force, these options may look very different. We’re going to see price hikes, product bans, or even forced reformulations that change your favourites beyond recognition. This is exactly why we’re urging our community: don’t wait.Black Friday this year isn’t just about snagging a few deals - it’s your best chance to get ahead of regulation, stock up, and save big before things start to tighten. If there’s ever been a time to load up the basket, this is it.We’re doing everything we can at DarkStar to prepare, but once this legislation drops, even we won’t be able to shield you from the impact. What’s available now might not be in a few months — and what’s cheap today could be triple the price next year, or more.10ml nic shots +£2.20100ml Short Fills +£22.00So let’s make this Black Friday count. Stock up. Get ready. Stay ahead.

Those prices that DARKSTAR has produced are heavily insane. There is no way the government will put the prices up that much. And, if that was the case then nobody would buy them and in return no revenue created. I personally believe that if DARKSTAR puts those ridiculous prices on there products that will be the end of the company. Ever since the plandemic companies up and down the country have increased all there prices on all products. So that they can literally steal people’s money so that they can become rich. Almost 6 years later is still happening, only that its getting much much worse. I believe DARKSTAR are following that suite. Looks like we’ll have to start preparing our own flavour concentrates at home. And, the best part about it, I wouldn’t cost us anywhere near these ridiculous scam prices!

Barthan….. It’s £2.20 tax for EVERY 10ML

Barthan - November 27, 2025

Absolute rubbish, at least try to make it somewhat believable.
Going by your unhinged speculation of 250ml base mix, ‘was’ £2.95, ‘after’ £57.95. That’s a 1846% price increase. Generic oneshot, was £9.95, now £36.35 = 265% increase.
Then you start going off to stock up before the last ‘pre-legisilation Black Friday’
Stop scaremongering.

I own a vape shop. I had already stopped buying disposables way before the ban.
I need a plan B, as I won’t be selling vape stuff when my stock runs out.
This may happen before or after October next year.
Get this. Most of the vape shops will do the same. I’m not scaremongering, I know shop owners from Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester etc, I was speaking to them about 2 weeks ago, at my wholesalers.
I sell a box of Hangsen liquids for 15 quid. You don’t need to be Carole Border man, to work out what that’s going to cost you.
When Rachel comes in for her 4 boxes of 12mg B&h, 60 quid, then it’s going to cost her 160 plus.
Trish and Dave have said they’ll probably close, an Trish has a much bigger turnover than me, she does more in a day, than I do in a week lf I have a poor week. Business for me has been down since about march/April.. thousands of jobs will be lost, the vape industry as we know it, will not exist.

I have actually tried vaping “flavourless”, and I don’t mind the sweet taste of base liquid. I only vape 3mg strength, and could probably reduce this. I still have over a litre of 72mg nicotine (thanks Dark Star) in the freezer from 2016, which is still perfectly fine!
If this all ends up not meeting my needs, then it’ll be back to under the counter Golden Virginia for me.

It also seems likely that anything larger than 10ml (shortfills etc) will be banned, as they are extending the regulations to cover zero nicotine (presently not covered by the Tobacco and Related Products Regulations 2016), and those regulations limit liquid capacity to 10ml max.

Ive been vaping since 2013 and the only way i managed to quit smoking. Well with these prices coming in i guess i will be going back to smoking! Honestly what are they thinking?

StarmersABell - November 26, 2025

The UK has often been reported as leading the way in terms of balance between vaping regulations and acknowledging the impact vaping has had on converting smokers to a less toxic form of nicotine intake. But this is a complete step in the wrong direction. In fact, its not even a step, its a jump. Whoever voted for this government, please take a break from voting for a while.

I won’t be paying this. I feel sad for dark star , I will just go to grey/black market just like i do for 72mg nicotine , they can’t tax ALL VG and PG like this That’s not sold for vaping , or flavourings

Very very sad for great vape stores like DS :/
